Math and Science

Phillip Latimer is the Division Coordinator of the Math/Science Department, Assistant Professor of Biology and the Director of Athletic Safety and Therapy. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S in Biology and a 2010 graduate of Life University, obtaining a Doctorate in Chiropractic. After successfully passing all 4 NBCE exams, he earned his Chiropractic license through the State of Georgia. He teaches Anatomy & Physiology 1 and 2 along with Sports Nutrition and Injury Prevention & Treatment. One of his passions in life involves how diet, anatomical structure and rest affect function of the human body. He loves sharing this knowledge with students, helping them learn and works towards making the classroom environment fun, engaging and challenging.

Prior to coming to Andrew in 2012, Dr. Latimer worked at Wellsource Chiropractic and Rehab in Tucker, Ga. Originally from Columbus, Ga., Dr. Latimer began his collegiate career at Andrew College playing first base for the Fighting Tigers baseball team. He credits those two years at Andrew for getting him off to a strong start academically, enabling him to pursue his further education.

Dr. Gavyn Long has been a lifelong resident of Tennessee until July 2018 when he moved to Cuthbert, GA. He grew up in Nashville but has lived in various towns in Middle Tennessee. For the last 10 years he has lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the town of Roan Mountain.

Dr. Long attended Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, Fisk, and Texas A&M. He has a bachelor of science in mathematics, and graduate degrees in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. He was the research associate on NASA Technical Paper 1359, “Engineering Handbook on the Atmospheric Environmental Guidelines for Use in Wind Turbine Generator Development” while at the University of Tennessee Space Institute in Tullahoma, TN.

He worked 13 summers at the Center for Photonic Materials and Devices at Fisk University, which was also a NASA center. His research was in Raman and Infrared Spectroscopy. He also did research using computational quantum chemical methods to study molecular structure and adsorption. He has been teaching math and physics courses for over thirty years.

His hobbies include hiking, bicycling, and photography.

Dr. Rachael Kenworthy is originally from South Carolina.  There she earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Biology at Charleston Southern University.  She then moved to Tallahassee, Florida to earn her Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Florida State University where she studied Hepatitis C Virus.  After completing her Ph.D. she joined the FSU Chemistry Department as a Postdoctoral Researcher studying drug resistance mechanisms in cancer.  In Fall of 2015 Dr. Kenworthy joined the Andrew College faculty.
In addition to her scholarly pursuits, Dr. Kenworthy also makes several fermented foods and beverages, and makes pottery.

Dr. Adam Redhead earned his B.S in Environmental and Natural Resources Management and Biology and Master of Philosophy degree in Soil Science at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Animal and Food Science from West Virginia University and MBA in Leadership and Sustainability at the University of Cumbria, in Switzerland. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Redhead continued his research in agriculture and animal sciences as the Project Manager for the Animal Food and Nutrition Consortium at NC State University and Postdoctoral Research Associate at USDA –ARS in the Food Science and Market Quality and Handling Research and Animal Biosciences & Biotechnology Laboratory units. Dr. Redhead has over twenty (20) years of experience in higher education and designing, implementing, and leading agricultural research projects.
