The Associate of Science in Education and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education concentrations are designed to offer students the coursework needed to pursue a career in education. Both programs explore the concepts of teaching and learning, including pedagogy, and some of the challenges facing education today, including legal decisions and addressing the needs of a variety of learners.  In addition to the core curriculum, Education students take Speech and several introductory education courses and Introduction to Computer Applications.

An emphasis in our Education program is that classroom observation is a part of several courses within the curriculum.  Students are paired with teachers at area schools.

Career Paths

Once students complete the Associate of Science in Education program at Andrew, he/she must complete an education program at a senior college in order to be eligible for certification as a teacher. An associate’s degree meets the educational qualification to work as a public school paraprofessional.

 

Bachelor of Science in Education
Once a teacher candidate graduates with the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEE) at Andrew College, and upon passing the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE), he/she will be able to gain employment as a general education teacher P-5 (pre-kindergarten through 5th grade). In addition, graduating with a BSEE from Andrew College will provide you with a deep concentration in reading instruction as you earn your Reading Endorsement.

Teachers Affecting Generations (TAG)

The mission of Teachers Affecting Generations is to inform and inspire others in the career of teaching and to make a difference in the community by working with educators and students and their families to promote and model a positive attitude and environment for learning for future generations.
The purpose of TAG is to:

  1. Attract and inspire students of great character and motivation, as positive role models, to the teaching profession.
  2. Bring awareness as to the importance of reading by second grade.
  3. Appreciate, honor, and encourage our teachers.
  4. Pursue wisdom thereby increasing knowledge and awareness of diversity in our American culture and classrooms, honoring all people as equal yet different.
