At the Festival, D.J. performed in the Student Award-winning One-Act play reading. In addition to these acting honors, the following students received Woodall Grants to support their travel and participation:

During the workshops, Dylan participated in discussions and critical writing on the shows presented at the Festival. He received Honorable Mention honors at the concluding Gala.

The piece featured Koldyn, Malain, Chance, and Isaiah and was chosen to be performed at the closing festival gala and received a certificate for Excellence in Devised Theatre. Leshunti and Hyde served as the stage managers of the performance.

During the closing Gala, Deb Liss-Green was named an incoming Vice-Chair of Region IV. She will serve in this capacity for three years and as Co-Chair of the Region for three years.

Landahl is announced as the 2022-2023 Andrew College Ray Scholarship recipient
President Linda R. Buchanan, student Linus Landahl, and Andrew College golf Coach Aaron Feyes.

CUTHBERT, GA (February 10, 2023) —Andrew College is pleased to announce that Linus Landahl has been awarded the Alouise K. and Albert W. Ray Scholarship for the academic year 2022-2023. Mrs. Kathy King, Andrew College presidential daughter, and trustee, has generously funded a unique scholarship for an academically promising freshman student. The scholarship will be awarded in January and will cover one semester of study at Andrew College and a unique, independent travel-study experience for the student. With this travel-study scholarship, Mrs. King hopes to strengthen the awardee, personally, academically, and intellectually: she asserts “Our perspective about most subjects is shaped by the range of our exposure. Travel increases that range of exposure and our comfort level with unfamiliar situations. Travel also facilitates the integration of abstract concepts to enhance critical thinking… My husband and I decided to include a travel provision in this scholarship because we had each experienced how travel broadened our perspective, range of interests, and self-confidence.” The awardee, Linus Landahl, is a member of the Andrew College Golf Team, and nominating professor Dr. Bob Kortbawi comments that Linus “has displayed rigor and drive toward his academics as well as his golf.” Linus, a Swedish citizen, plans to use his study-travel award to go to Minnesota during the summer of 2023 and research the history of Swedish immigration to the United States. He will return to Andrew College for Fall 2023 and share his research with presentations to the campus. Linus says, “I want to thank Mrs. Kathy King for the phenomenal opportunity and look forward to meeting her when I complete this journey.”

Andrew College and Georgia Southwestern sign agreement for Long-Term Care Management Program
Georgia Southwestern, Andrew College sign agreement for Long-Term Care Management Program

CUTHBERT, GA (January 9, 2023) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and Andrew College recently signed a Pathway Memorandum of Understanding that is designed to ensure a smooth transition from associate degree programs at Andrew to GSW’s Bachelor’s degree program in Long-Term Care Management (LTCM) program.

Through the Pathway Program agreement, all students interested in a career in Long-Term Care Management can continue online and/or in classroom settings. Andrew graduates who have completed the appropriate degree (Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy) that is required in the LTCM curriculum can take advantage of this opportunity.

“According to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid there are currently 14 million people receiving some form of long-term care and that number is expected to double by 2050.  Our partnership with Georgia Southwestern will help contribute to the workforce needs for Southwest Georgia and beyond,” stated Andrew College President Linda R. Buchanan, Ph.D.

“We are excited to partner with Andrew College in educating the caregivers our aging and disabled communities desperately need,” said GSW President Neal Weaver, Ph.D. “We hope that in simplifying the transition from institution to institution, more students are encouraged to pursue long-term care as a career.”

“Our nation has a growing number of older adults and individuals with disabilities,” said GSW Associate Dean and Professor Leisa Easom, Ph.D. “The LTCM degree addresses the multi-disciplinary elements in education and training required in the preparation of our healthcare workforce today to meet the needs of these populations.”

Unique to the GSW campus is the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI) where the creation of this degree began. In prior years, Easom served as the RCI executive director and experienced firsthand how families across the nation are struggling to connect with community resources that would enable the disabled family member to remain in their home, navigate the health care system, and/or transition from hospital to home as well as residential settings.

Graduates with the LTCM degree will have the managerial, budgetary and communication skills critical to the health management field. The degree prepares graduates to assist patients and families to connect with community resources, transition from hospital to home, and manage the care of residents in an institutional setting.

Theatre Articulation Agreement Photo 2022

CUTHBERT, GA (November 29, 2022)-Leaders from the University of West Georgia and Andrew College recently signed a partnership agreement that will provide a streamlined path for theatre students between the two institutions.

“We make distinct contributions to the industries that hire the professionals who graduate from our theatre program – particularly in the growing arts and entertainment industry found in metropolitan Atlanta,” said Dr. Brendan B. Kelly, UWG’s president. “To curate a first-choice institution, we will continue to be an intellectual and economic engine in our state through agreements like this. Our mutually beneficial partnership with Andrew College optimizes resources to offer the students we serve the educational opportunities they need to thrive.”

Through the partnership, students who complete the requirements of the Associate of Arts degree in theatre from Andrew College will benefit from a seamless transition into the Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre offered in UWG’s College of Arts, Culture and Scientific Inquiry, decreasing the amount of time it could take to earn their baccalaureate degree.

The Vibrant Communities Grant supports a variety of arts programming opportunities throughout the state. As part of this year’s Vibrant Communities awards, 44 entities in 38 counties will receive almost $200,000 in funding. “Rarely has arts funding been more needed than it is today, so Georgia Council for the Arts is particularly grateful for the support that the Georgia General Assembly is providing for our arts communities to help them carry out their mission,” said Georgia Council for the Arts Director Tina Lilly. “We hear firsthand about what this assistance can mean to an organization and a community, and we’re pleased to know that it will touch the lives of so many Georgians.”

Georgia Council for the Arts received applications from schools, libraries, cities, historical societies,

community theatres, Boys & Girls Clubs, and arts and other related organizations from across the state.

Entities that previously received a fiscal year 2023 Project, Bridge, or Arts Education grant, which were announced in August, were not eligible for Vibrant Communities grants.

Andrew College Coordinator of Development Courtney Heath shared, “we are so grateful to receive this grant.  Funding from the Vibrant Communities grant is what has made the event Arts ‘Round the Square possible since 2018.”
