Theatre at Andrew

All in the Timing
by David Ives. A series of brilliant one act plays with hilarious commentary on life, love, and loquaciousness. Three monkeys are the focus of science experiment involving typewriters,  with the predicted outcome that they will eventually randomly pound out Hamlet. A woman with a stutter hopes to have her issues solved by learning Unamunda, the universal language. Timing is explored in various ways, including the many possible ways to meet someone of the opposite sex, the effect miniature golf may have on three different women, and the various ways that Leon Trotsky could have been murdered, as long as they all involve an ice ax in Mexico.

Online Theatre Questionnaire Form

The Theatre Program at Andrew College works to be both academically challenging and artistically rewarding. Because our class sizes are small, our students receive personalized attention from faculty.  Our CURRICULUM mirrors that of the University System of Georgia, preparing you to transfer to a four-year institution to complete your undergraduate study.

                                             The Foreigner

Because we offer an Associates Degree, our students are able to be involved in productions from the minute they step onto campus.  Unlike many Bachelors programs, students at Andrew don’t have to compete with upperclassmen for roles onstage and off.

We offer the Associate of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts, along with a certificate in Musical Theatre.  Our production season consists of a play in the Fall semester, and a Musical in the Spring. These have recently included such shows as The Foreigner, Once on This Island, Macbeth, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Additionally, for the past two years we have added a third, smaller production.  These third productions can take many forms, from 2012-13’s interactive murder mystery dinner theatre Death Makes a Bid to 2011-12’s world premiere staged reading of a new translation of Chekhov (click on the link for a video).

Our base is the historic Liddie Murphy Theatre in Old Main on the Andrew College campus. Seating between 50-170 depending on the needs of individual productions, “The Liddie” has welcomed audiences to Andrew for 120 years, and is expected to undergo major renovations in the near future. This is not to say our performance space is behind the times, as we utilize computerized lighting control, an up to date digital soundboard, and online ticketing.  Students are trained to use all our equipment in both our Practicum class and in practical production roles.
