Andrew College Students Earn Nominations and Awards to Travel to Region 4 of the American College Theatre Festival
Three students stand side by side indoors against a dark wall with a striped graphic. All three wear red conference lanyards with name badges. The student on the left wears glasses, a black jacket, and a patterned shirt with guitars. The student in the middle wears a black hoodie and black pants. The student on the right wears a gray Nike pullover, a red head covering, and light distressed jeans.

Cuthbert, GA. – February 13, 2026 — Three Andrew College Liberal Arts students attended Region 4 of the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) 58 from February 3–6 in Montgomery, Alabama. Based on their performances in last fall’s production of The 39 Steps, Zaid Hassan (Communication) and Terry Tyson III (Performing Arts) were nominated to compete in ACTF’s Irene Ryan Scholarship Auditions. Alexander Daniel-Maxwell (Communication) received a John H. Woodall Enhanced Learning Grant for Students based on his academic and creative work in theatre and English.

Irene Ryan participants are nominated by an external ACTF respondent who attends a college production within the region. This fall, the production respondent was Prof. Quinton Cockrell of Troy University. In addition to the student nominees, faculty director Deborah Liss-Green received a Meritorious Achievement in Directing award.

During the five-day festival, the students auditioned alongside more than 130 actors, attended five theatre productions, including three at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, participated in workshops across multiple areas of theatre, and visited the Legacy Sites in Montgomery.

Much of this travel was made possible through the theatre program’s fundraising productions, including the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre and the Haunted House. Additional travel support for Alexander Daniel-Maxwell was provided through the Woodall Award. Because Associate Professor Liss-Green serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Region, the students were chaperoned by Vice President of Student Affairs Chicquan Cannon.

Andrew College is proud to participate in Region 4 of ACTF, a national organization that supports and celebrates excellence in college theatre. The College’s fall production is traditionally entered as an Associate Production and has earned multiple student and faculty nominations and awards.

Cuthbert, GA. – January 22, 2026 — Andrew College announced today that Spring 2026 enrollment has reached 510 students, marking a 17 percent increase over Spring 2025 enrollment of 435 students and the largest spring enrollment in the institution’s history.

The record enrollment continues a multi-year growth trend at the college, reflecting sustained momentum in academic programs, athletics, student life, and campus investment. Recent accomplishments contributing to enrollment growth include the addition of eleven new four-year degree programs, the continued expansion of the Aderhold Division of Nursing, the launch of new athletic programs, improved retention and student success initiatives, and renewed focus on affordability and access for students across the region. The college has also seen increased engagement from alumni, donors, and community partners, further strengthening its foundation.

“This milestone is about more than a number,” said Dr. William R. Kennedy, president of Andrew College. “It reflects years of intentional work to stabilize the institution, invest in programs that matter, and create a campus experience where students can thrive. Reaching 510 students this spring, our largest spring enrollment ever, confirms that our strategy is working and that families see value in what Andrew College offers.”

Dr. Kennedy added that while enrollment growth is encouraging, the institution remains focused on long-term sustainability. “Growth brings responsibility,” he said. “We will continue to be disciplined, student-centered, and mission-driven as we build for the future.”

Founded in 1854, Andrew College is a private, faith-based institution committed to academic excellence, service, and leadership. The college continues to position itself as a strong and resilient option for students seeking a personalized education grounded in values and opportunity.

Andrew College Awarded ‘Vibrant Communities’ Grant from Georgia Council for the Arts
A person paints a colorful outdoor scene on a large canvas, depicting buildings and a tall monument under a bright blue sky. The artist’s hand holds a paintbrush, adding details to a red tower structure, with tents and trees visible in the background.

Cuthbert, GA. – November 4, 2025 — Andrew College was awarded a Vibrant Communities Grant from Georgia Council for the Arts, the Georgia Department of Economic Development team specialized in empowering arts and culture, for fiscal year 2026. The Vibrant Communities Grant supports a variety of arts programming throughout the state, including murals, artist residencies and performances in schools, community theater productions, festivals, and concerts.

As part of this year’s Vibrant Communities awards, 55 entities in 41 counties will receive $230,000 in funding.

“Georgia Council for the Arts is excited to support arts programming across the state that expands educational opportunities for students, attracts tourists who support small businesses, and cultivates vibrant communities,” said Georgia Council for the Arts Executive Director Tina Lilly. “These grants are vital in areas of the state that do not have local arts organizations, and help communities harness the long-term benefits of the arts and improve quality of life for residents.”

Georgia Council for the Arts received applications from schools, libraries, cities, historical societies, community theaters, Boys & Girls Clubs, and arts and other related organizations. In an effort to support projects across the state, Vibrant Communities Grants were awarded to entities in counties in which no organization had already received Georgia Council for the Arts funding for the fiscal year 2026 grants cycle.

“We’re grateful to the Georgia Council for the Arts for recognizing the creative spirit that thrives here in Cuthbert,” said Dr. William R. Kennedy, President of Andrew College. “This grant will help us expand opportunities for students and the community to engage with the arts through new exhibits, performances, and outreach events. The arts are essential to our mission and our region’s vitality, and continued support from the state allows us to keep that energy growing right here in rural southwest Georgia.”

Funding for these grants is provided through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly.
