The Diviners 2016
The Theatre Program at Andrew College works to be both academically challenging and artistically rewarding. Because our class sizes are small, our students receive personalized attention from faculty. Our CURRICULUM mirrors that of the University System of Georgia, preparing you to transfer to a four-year institution to complete your undergraduate study.
Because we offer an Associates Degree, our students are able to be involved in productions from the minute they step onto campus. Unlike many Bachelors programs, students at Andrew don’t have to compete with upperclassmen for roles onstage and off.
We offer the Associate of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts. Our production season consists of a play in the Fall semester, and a Musical in the Spring. These have recently included such shows as Grease, Master Harold and the Boys, Our Town, The Foreigner, Once on This Island, Macbeth, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Additionally, for the past four years, we have added a third, smaller production. These third productions can take many forms, from 2013-14’s interactive murder mystery dinner theatre Murder at Buckhorn Manor to this coming season's site-specific original play that will take place inside the mansions of the historic homes tour.
Our base is the historic Liddie Murphy Theatre in Old Main on the Andrew College campus. Seating between 50-180 depending on the needs of individual productions, “The Liddie” has welcomed audiences to Andrew for over 120 years and has recently undergone major renovations. New LED lighting, a digital soundboard, new curtains, as well as resurfaced floors, and reupholstered and refinished historic seats are just some of the recent upgrades. Students are trained to use all of our equipment in our theatre classes and in practical production roles.
With an average class size of six to eight students, you will receive personalized attention tailored to your specific needs. Our students receive training in Acting, Theatre Technology, Theatre History, and Directing, as well as significant production experience.
