The Lady Tigers had runners in scoring position in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th innings, only to be turned away each time. The Lady Tigers played their best game since opening day and were rewarded with a thrilling 2-1 victory over traditional power Middle Ga. Mandy Fuller pitched masterfully, the defense was outstanding and Katie Gray drove in Fuller with a single in the bottom of the 6th to seal the deal. Fuller and Brittany Wilson had back to back hits in the 6th, were sacrificed over by Christa Archer, before Gray’s big two out hit. Brandie Monroe led off the game with a single, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Tigers also pulled off a tough pitcher to home to first double play to snuff out a Middle Ga. rally in the top of the 2nd.
Game 2 came down to a few mistakes and Middle Ga. capitalized on them. Leanna Burch pitched a complete game, but couldn’t contain the Lady Warriors. Monroe and Ivy Reese both went 1 for 1 and were on base 5 times together, and Wilson and Gray each had a hit and an RBI, but it wasn’t enough. Leanna Burch held a nationally-ranked power to no runs through six innings, and only a bloop double that hit the chalk with two outs in the 7th marred a great effort. The Lady Tigers got hits from Brandie Monroe, Christa Archer, Starr Peters, and Mandy Fuller, but despite several chances, could not punch a run across.
Game 2 brought out the best in the Lady Tigers, as they fell behind 9-1 after three innings, and looked like they were going to be run-ruled. But the Lady Tigers fought back, knocking out their starter. Katie Gray had a big day, with a hit and 2 RBI, Mandy Fuller reached base all 3 times, including a hit and a RBI, Christa Archer had 2 hits and scored a run, Brandie Monroe had a hit and scored two runs, Brittany Wilson had a hit, and Katie Sharp had a RBI ground out. Wilson played both games with a severely bruised throwing hand after taking a foul tip and Starr Peters has been playing with a badly bruised thumb. Fuller pitched two quality innings despite the hip flexor strain, so the Lady Tigers will take the week off for spring break and get healthy.
