Andrew College hosts Youth Rally
Andrew College is making new efforts to show its pride in being connected to The United Methodist Church. In an effort to give a little bit back, Andrew recently hosted a youth rally for United Methodist teens all over Southwest Georgia. The rally featured two live Christian bands, inflatable games, Frisbee golf, volleyball, basketball, free food and free Andrew College T-shirts. Teens could also sign up to win a free I-pod Nano. The day ended with a short time of worship.
The purpose of the rally was twofold. First of all, it gave Andrew College the opportunity to reach beyond its doors and reach out in service to teenagers. Some thirty Andrew students gave up their Sunday afternoon to come and lead games, hang out with teenagers, cook hotdogs, and make new friends. It was a great service opportunity for the college. Secondly, it put the Andrew College name out there among our United Methodist youth. Hopefully, high school students will give Andrew a second thought now that they know what Andrew strives to be about.
Plans are already in the works for a future youth rally in Albany and Columbus. There are also plans being made to host a bandfest on campus in the Spring of 2007. Andrew College is proud of its United Methodist heritage, may it continue!
