Andrew College to launch Women’s Basketball and Golf in 2006
Andrew College President David A. Palmer and Athletic Director Jimmy Gilbert enthusiastically announce the addition of varsity women’s basketball and women’s golf for the 2006-2007 academic year. Andrew has a strong sports program that includes soccer and cross country for men and women, golf and baseball for men and fast pitch softball for women.
“The addition of women’s basketball and golf will only strengthen our current program. Both sports are popular at both the two and four year level that will help with recruiting. We will begin our search for a basketball coach immediately,” Gilbert said.
Andrew added cross country this year and it is very successful with Coach P.D. Anglea men’s team winning the Region XVII title and the women’s team finishing second in the region. Coach Anglea was chosen as the men’s cross-country Coach of the Year for Region XVII.
“Many of our students participate in co-curricular activities, be that in art, music, drama, servant leadership, tutoring, or varsity athletics. Strange as it sounds, student athletes characteristically manage their time more effectively in season than before or after. Both women’s basketball and women’s golf will give more participation opportunities for our female athletes and will be a positive influence for our student life program,” commented President Palmer.
