appoints Synovus Trust president George Flowers to Board of Trustees
George Flowers, president of Synovus Trust Company, was appointed to
Andrew
College
’s Board of Trustees at its last board meeting. Before being named president of Synovus Trust in 1995, Flowers worked for Columbus Bank and Trust in a variety of positions, lastly as senior vice president.
In addition to serving on
Andrew
College
’s Board of Trustees, Flowers is currently a board member for the Columbus Regional Medical Foundation, the Downtown Columbus Rotary, the American Heart Association (Greater Columbus Chapter), and
St. Paul
United
Methodist
Church
. He also holds leadership positions with the Columbus Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Columbus Estate Planning Council, the Georgia Bankers Association, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and the Historic Columbus Foundation.
“We are honored and pleased that George Flowers is joining the Board of Trustees of Andrew College,” Emily Jean McAfee, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said. “We appreciate his expertise and experience in the finance industry and look forward to the valuable role he will play on our Board."
Flowers has dedicated much of his time to community organizations and philanthropic causes. He is a longstanding member of
St. Paul
United
Methodist
Church
, where he has served the church in a variety of leadership roles since 1989. He is also actively involved with the
United Way
.
Flowers volunteers a great deal of his time to the American Heart Association and has served the organization at the local, regional, and national level. He has received many honors from the association, including the Volunteer of the Year Award, the Outstanding Volunteer Award, and the Gold Medallion Award. Flowers has been a volunteer with the American Heart Association in some capacity since 1981.
"George Flowers is a fine gentleman,” David A. Palmer, president, said. “He's a life-long Methodist, a devout family man, a public servant, and he believes in private higher education. I hope Andrew has the benefit of his counsel for many years."
Flowers and his wife of 23 years, Jean, are residents of
Columbus
,
Ga.
, and have three teenage children. He is a 1978 graduate of
Davidson
College
and also received professional certification from the Cannon Trust Institute.
“Being a life-long South Georgia Methodist, I have admired the education offered at
Andrew
College
for many years,” Flowers said. “I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to be associated with such a fine institution. I look forward to serving Andrew.”
