Andrew College Fine Arts faculty to perform

The Andrew College Fine Arts Department will present a Fine Arts Faculty Showcase on Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in The Jones Chapel. For the first time in several years, the Fine Arts faculty at Andrew College will join together en masse to present their talents. Although many faculty members do perform at various events throughout the year, this will be the first performance exclusively by Fine Arts professors.

Dr. Susan Tusing, Fine Arts Division Coordinator and professor of piano, keyboarding, and theory, heads the program. Tusing will be performing two solo piano pieces and will be accompanying vocal performances by other performers. Diana Foster, professor of voice, will be performing several songs in various styles. Foster will be singing selections from opera, art songs, and Broadway. Nathaniel Allen, professor of visual art and the College’s newest Fine Arts faculty member, will have his art work on display throughout the common areas of the Chapel and will also be performing on guitar and singing. Finally, Paul B. Crook, director of theatre arts, will be performing five monologues and joining Foster in a Broadway duet.

When asked about the genesis of this project, Crook replied, “we thought that it would be important for our students to see us put to use things we teach them in the classroom or the rehearsal studio every day. So often our students see us as teachers only and forget that their professors are also professionals in their given fields.” Crook went on to add that the students often benefit greatly from seeing their instructors “practice what they preach.”

The program begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. on March 17 in The Jones Chapel. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early enough to allow themselves time to view the art work that will be on display before the performances begin. Audience members are invited to stay afterward for a reception in the Chapel and to visit with the performers. Reservations are not needed, but seating is limited.
