Andrew College Celebrates 152nd Convocation

On Thursday, August 25, Andrew College will celebrate the beginning of the College’s 152nd academic year. Emily Jean McAfee, chairman of the board of trustees, will welcome more than 300 students of which 195 are incoming freshmen. Mrs. McAfee and Dr. David Palmer have issued an invitation for all to join the Andrew College campus in welcoming our new academic year.

Mr. Jeremiah Castille of Birmingham, Alabama, will serve as the guest speaker for this year’s Convocation. If you are a Crimson Tide football fan, you are familiar with the name. Mr. Castille was a defensive back (1979-82) for the University of Alabama under Coach “Bear” Bryant. His performance on the field won him Most Valuable Player honors, All-SEC selection, and membership into Alabama’s 1992 All-Century Football team. Mr. Castille went on to play in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos for six seasons with impressive performances.

Mr. Castille also has a strong Christian faith and he firmly believes in leading by example. He served as the Director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes prior to becoming the team chaplain at Alabama. An ordained minister, Castille founded Jeremiah Castille Ministries which reaches out and ministers to inner-city youth through sports, two things that he knows well.

Andrew College’s relationship to The United Methodist Church makes Mr. Castille’s appearance at Convocation especially fitting for the campus and the community. Please join Andrew College and Jeremiah Castille in welcoming this year’s students on August 25, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Andrew College Gymnasium behind Old Main.
