Andrew College students visit Jimmy Carter in Plains

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 10 students from the AndrewServes servant-leadership program and the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity traveled to Plains, Georgia to hear former president Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School at Maranatha Baptist Church. Many of the Andrew College students had the opportunity to speak with Carter before he began his Sunday School lesson.

“Jimmy Carter is a marvelous speaker and it was interesting to hear about his recent travels around the world,” Kelsey Ustrud, a freshman AndrewServes student from Dacula, Ga., said. “It was hard to grasp the fact that I was listening to the former president of the United States. This was certainly an experience that I will never forget.”

Following the Sunday School service, the students visited the old Plains High School, which is now a National Historic Site. Students toured the school and then watched an educational video in the school’s auditorium. They learned about Carter’s life and his rise to the presidency.
