AndrewServes scholarships mean more than just funding for college
Each year, graduating seniors are faced with a multitude of college choices. For their parents, it’s a question of how to pay for the best education and the best lifelong learning opportunities. At
Andrew
College
in
Cuthbert
,
Georgia
, there is a scholarship program that helps parents address these questions.
AndrewServes is a servant leadership program that offers scholarships toward tuition at
Andrew
College
. Students in the scholarship program, called the Servant Leader Scholar Program, are involved in community service projects, retreats, mentoring, and tutoring. These events and activities improve the students’ understanding of how service work affects them and their communities, while enhancing their leadership education and development. AndrewServes students also take a leadership course each semester as a part of the two-year leadership curriculum certificate program.
Jennifer Sands, Director of AndrewServes, said the Servant Leader Scholar Program helps students better understand who they are and realize their full potential. “Students who come into the program start to see how much their actions affect others,” Sands said. “Through hands on experience, both in service and leadership capacities, they get a much broader view of the world and themselves. They start to mature both emotionally and intellectually. The program is demanding and students quickly learn how to manage their time and get organized, which helps them in their academics as well.”
To become a part of AndrewServes, a student must first apply to
Andrew
College
, and then apply to the AndrewServes program. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, and 890 on their SAT (460 Verbal, 430 Math) or the equivalent on their ACT. They must also have experience in service work and/or leadership, either in their school or community.
