Andrew College hosts 3rd Annual Academic Competiton

Approximately three hundred students attended the 3rd Annual Academic Competition at Andrew College on January 19, 2007.  Ten schools participated in the competition:  Randolph Southern School (Shellman), Chattahoochee County High School, Miller County High School, Dooly County High School, Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.), Northside High School (Columbus), Carver High School (Columbus), Harris County High School, Bainbridge High School and Cairo High School.

            Scholarships were awarded for the academic competitions.  The winners received a $ 3000.00 scholarship for first, a $ 2000.00 scholarship for second and a $ 1000.00 scholarship for third.  The winners included the following:  Personal Essays:  1st-Kaitlyn Martin, Randolph Southern; 2nd-Julie Bentley, Randolph Southern; 3rd-Rachael Land, Cairo; Social Studies:  1st- Drew Adams, Northside; 2nd-Blake Doughty, Northside; 3rd-Justin McCain-Northside; Mathematics:  1st-Kristina Comer, Harris County; 2nd-James Rowe, Harris County; 3rd-LaRon Bell, Carver; Spanish:  1st-Jessica Gomez, Dooly County; 2nd-Lasasha Bennett, Dooly County; 3rd-Manecea Smith, Dooly County; Science:  1st-Keigh Belcher, Northside; 2nd-Michael Beurss, Northside; 3rd-Ian Guthridge, Northside.
 
            A Quiz Bowl Competition was held in the afternoon.  Winners of this included the following:  Single A Schools: 1st-Dolly County Team 1; 2nd-Dooly County Team 2; 3rd-Chattahoochee County Team 2; Large Schools AAA and AAA:  1st-Northside High School Team 1; 2nd-Northside High School Team 2; 3rd-Cairo High School Team 1; 3rd-Harris County High School Team 1.

            Other winners of the competitions included the following for Single A Schools: Social Studies:  12th Grade: 1st –Lane Hixon; 2nd-Branon Pate, both of Randolph Southern School; 11th Grade: 1st-Ke’Andrea Towns, Dooly County; 2nd-Nicole Adams, Randolph Southern School; 10th Grade: 1st-Cassieta Lee, Dooly County; 2nd-Sydney Worthy, Randolph Southern School; 9th Grade:  1st-Brian Beard; 2nd – Kevin Oliver Melton, both of Randolph Southern School; Mathematics:  12th Grade:  1st-Samarj Redding, Dooly County; 2nd-Jenna DeVane, Randolph Southern; 11th Grade:  1st-Jennifer Dillon; 2nd –N. Joseph Garrett, both of Chattahoochee County; 10th Grade:  1st-Blake Duncanson, Chattahoochee County; 2nd-Lucas Walker, Dooly County; 9th Grade:  1st-Sarah Sanders, Chattahoochee County; 2nd-L’Oreal Angugliaro, Chattahoochee County; Science:  12th Grade:  1st-Keri Cadle; 2nd-Prescott Langford, Both of Randolph Southern School; 11th Grade:    1st-Kevin Ellis, Randolph Southern School; 2nd-Ulysius McGhee, Dooly County; 10th Grade: 1st-James Boyer; 2nd-Elizabeth Bates, both of Chattahoochee County; 9th Grade:  1st-Alan Gonzalez, Dooly County; 2nd-Loy DeVane, Randolph Southern School.

            Large School Division (AAA and AAAA) included the following winners:  Social Studies:  12th Grade:  1st-Drew Adams; 2nd-Blake Doughty, Northside High School; 11th Grade:  1st-Emily Oliver, Cairo High School; 2nd-Stephanie McGucken, Central High School; 10th Grade:  1st-Justin Drew; 2nd-Tia Huntly, both of Cairo High School; Mathematics:  12th Grade:  1st-Kristina Comer; 2nd-James Rowe, both of Harris County High; 11th Grade:  1st-J.P. Henley; 2nd-Chris Cain, both of Northside High; 10th Grade:  1st- Jose Omar Rodriquez, Carver High; 2nd-David Grant, Northside High; 9th Grade:  1st-Erick Juarez, Bainbridge High School; 2nd-Sarah Selvidge, Central High; Science:  12th Grade:  1st – Keith Belcher; 2nd-Michael Bears, both of Northside High; 11th Grade:  1st-Alan Carver, Northside High School; 2nd-Ethan Merchant, Cairo High School; 10th Grade:  1st-Jared Hasick; 2nd-Tanangela Glynn, both of Cairo High School; 9th:  1st-Aaron Childers; 2nd-Zack Zabel, both of Northside High School; Spanish I:  1st- Lorena Vasquez, Dooly County; 2nd-Christopher Brown, Cairo High School; Spanish II:  1st-Jessica Gomez; 2nd-Jessica Gonzalez, both of Dooly County High School.

            The Personal Essay Awards were as follows:  12th Grade:  1st-Kaitlyn Martin; 2nd-Julie Bentley, Randolph Southern School; 11th Grade:  1st-A.J. King; 2nd-Cameron Rigsby, Randolph Southern School; 10th Grade:  1st-Kahja Washington, Cairo High School; 9th Grade:  1st-Candice Wengerd; 2nd-Shea Barnett, both of Randolph Southern School.

            The students spent the day on the Andrew College campus and were given campus tours by the Andrew Ambassadors and the staff of the Admission Department.
