ACT! Presents Sophomore Showcase Production of Twelve Angry Jurors
On April 21-23 at 7:30 PM, ACT!, the Andrew College Theatre department, will be giving a performance of Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Jurors. This production is the inaugural version of what is being called the Sophomore Showcase. Director of Theatre Arts Paul B. Crook begins a process of comprehensive theatre learning for his students with this production this year. “We felt it was important for our students to learn about ALL aspects of theatre,” Crook said. “I want them to learn what it’s like to have to put together a play completely.” For that reason, the play is being produced completely by students, with second year theatre students taking on the production roles usually headed by faculty. Sophomore Charles Bender is serving as director, with second-year students Latoya Smith and Emily Allen serving as properties/costume manager and production manager, respectively. Emily Jones, the lone Freshman on the production team, serves as stage manager.
The play peeks into a jury room as a jury deliberates the fate of a young boy accused of murdering his father. Made famous as Twelve Angry Men, a TV movie starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb, the play is a gripping look at the judicial system and the individual and very human prejudices and foibles that make up our trial by jury process. The cast of the ACT! production, as usual, is made up entirely of students, many of whom are performing onstage for the first time. The show features: Alexis Eliopolous, Jenetra Hamm, Adam Logan, Byron Cooper, Brandon Wilder, Keisha Kelley, Jonathan Arnold, Corey Perkins, Kelvin Ash, Eric Whittead, Andrea Wimberly, and Dewanda Miller.
Performances of ACT!’s Sophomore Showcase production of Twelve Angry Jurors begins at 7:30 each night April 21-23. This play will be held in the dance studio on the second floor of the Parker building behind the main building. The show runs approximately 70 minutes. Admission to the performances is free to all, but seating is limited, so patrons are encouraged to arrive early. The house will open at 7:00 each night.
