1. Entrance Counseling

What is Entrance Counseling?  Before receiving student loans, borrowers MUST complete an entrance counseling session.  This quick and way interactive counseling session provides useful tips and tools to help you develop a budget for managing your education expenses and helps you understand your loan responsibilities.

Please allow approximately 30 minutes to complete this process.

To complete this requirement, please complete the following:

1.       Go to www.studentloans.gov.
2.       Click on the green SIGN IN button.  You will need your student Social Security Number and PIN (from FAFSA) to sign in.
3.       On the next page click on the Complete Entrance Counseling link.
4.       On the next page you will also need to click on the Complete Entrance Counseling link.
5.       On the next page click the button beside:  I am completing entrance counseling in order to receive loans as an undergraduate student. This counseling will fulfill counseling requirements for Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans.
6.       Click Continue
7.       Once you have completed the Entrance Counseling, please continue to complete the Master Promissory Note.


2. Master Promissory Note
The Federal Direct Master Promissory Note is a legal document listing the terms and conditions under which you repay the loan.

You will be required to list two references.  One reference can be a parent, and the other must be someone that lives at a different address.

1.       Make sure you are logged on to www.studentloans.gov.  (Follow the directions listed above).
2.       Click on the Complete Master Promissory Note link.
3.       Click on the Subsidized/Unsubsidized link.
4.       Complete the required information.


3.   Parent PLUS Loan
Parents can apply for a Parent PLUS Loan to help cover the balance owed.  A credit check is required.  To complete the Parent PLUS Loan please follow the instructions listed below.  (If a parent is not credit worthy, the student may be eligible to borrow additional Unsubsidized Loans. The process listed below MUST be completed to determine eligibility.)

1.       Go to www.studentloans.gov.
2.       Click on the green SIGN IN button. You will need the PARENT Social Security Number and PIN (from FAFSA) to sign in.  NOTE:  The PARENT, not the student, must log in to complete the Parent PLUS Loan information.  Please DO NOT use the student information to log in.)
3.       Click on the Request a PLUS Loan link.
4.       On the next page, click on Parent PLUS.
5.       Complete the required information.
6.       If you are approved for the Parent PLUS loan, you will need to complete the Master Promissory Note.

4. Student Access Loan  -  through Georgia Student Finance.
