Internal Grants
Andrew College administers several federal grants that provide
opportunities for faculty development. The Title III Interactive Distance Learning
program, which ends September 30, 2003, provides stipends for faculty to incorporate
WEBCT and other web-based technology to improve instructional delivery methods.
The Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology grant
provides faculty development opportunities geared towards using new instructional
software to improve learning. The PT3 program will end June 30 of 2004.
This year four faculty members were awarded mini-grants from the College's PT3
funds for technology training and software to support changes in specific courses.
Joy Sammons and David Grice are focusing on technology innovations in
education courses. Yamandu Acosta received funds to attend a foreign
language conference that focused on using technology to improve his
Spanish courses. Josie Moore recently applied for and received a mini-grant
to revise two courses to incorporate new software and GPS technology.
Faculty who are interested in applying for an internal PT3 grant should first contact
Sandra Flowers with a preliminary proposal, which outlines the new technology to be
implemented and how it will improve student learning. If the project meets PT3
guidelines, the proposal will be forwarded to the Department Chair and Dr. David
Seyle for approval. Stipends for course revisions to incorporate technology
innovations generally are $1,500. Equipment and travel requests must be directly
linked to course improvements.
